Full Body Barre Class & Tips for your First Barre Class
Last year I took a Barre certification course with Balance Studio, and I am now a certified Barre instructor! I currently teach at the studio every weekend, and I’m excited to share a 40 minute express barre class with you today on my website! For this class, I played my music in my earphones, but I will put a link to the Spotify playlist below the video, or you can jam out to your own tunes!
1. Don’t be afraid to modify
Whenever I am feeling a little tired or even if some of my muscles are a little sore, I love to modify my workouts. Feel free to drop the weights and just use your arms as natural resistance. Another option would be to stay on your knees during push-ups, or keep your heels on the ground during the leg series. Remember to take as many breaks as you like, and listen to your body.
2. Embrace the shake
When your muscles shake that shows you that you are really working your muscles, and you have worked them to a point of fatigue. Remember that you can do anything you set your mind to, and your mind always wants to give up before your body, so stay strong and embrace the shake. However, if anything ever hurts, stop whatever you are doing so that you don’t injure yourself.
3. Don’t give up
Sometimes you may feel overwhelmed with all the different types of moves that your instructor will talk about in class, but don’t give up. It takes time to form a habit, and the more barre classes you take, the better you will get at it! It may seem like others around you know what they are doing, but they went through that initial beginner barre stage as well. I promise that the different sequences will seem less complicated with time.
4. The smaller the movement the better
Try to make your movements as small as possible! The smaller they are, the more you isolate those tiny muscles, and the more you will shake. You may hear me say, “up an inch, down an inch” in class, and I encourage you to really put your mind to the muscle you are working, and only move that small inch in your movements.
5. Don’t forget to stretch
Remember to always stretch after your workout! Barre definitely works every muscle in your body, and I encourage everyone to stay for the stretch after class, even if it’s only for a few minutes. I also recommend using a foam roller when you are extra sore from that booty and leg work!
I hope these tips help you in my barre class, and I hope you enjoy class! Let me know what you thought of it in the comments!
