How to Build the Perfect Bowl of Porridge

My all-time favorite breakfast is a big bowl of porridge! I have it every single day, but I make sure to change it up at least once a week so that I don’t get bored. In the winter in Boston, it is absolutely freezing, so it is a perfect breakfast to stay warm in the mornings. Due to all of the fiber in oats, porridge keeps me full until lunchtime, which is super important when I am in classes at school all morning! I wanted to share with you how I build a delicious bowl of porridge, so let’s get started!

1. Grab some gluten-free oats and your favorite plant-based milk (oat milk, almond milk, coconut milk, cashew milk, etc) and put them into a saucepan over medium-low heat.

2. Pick your favorite fruit (shredded apples, chopped bananas, chopped dates, raisins, etc) and place it in with the oats and milk to simmer.

3. Once your porridge is nice and thick, pour it into a bowl.

4. Pick your favorite toppings!

  • Granola
  • Cacao nibs
  • Chia seeds
  • Flax seeds
Fruit Options

  • Berry compote
  • Banana slices
  • Pear slices
  • Apple slices
Chewy Options

  • Dates
  • Raisins
  • Chunks of your favorite protein bar
Creamy Options

  • Peanut butter
  • Almond butter
  • Cashew butter
